Artist Statement
When it comes to interpreting nature, Sandy enjoys a challenge. She is apt to reorganize what she sees before her into a collage to create a tension, exaggerating shape, changing colour to create a composition that is uniquely her own. Her view is one of highly contrasting lights and darks, voids and masses, outlines and shapes. On top of this she may add her signature mark making to provide added texture.
Her inspiration can come from life, a scene recalled or a photo, which she alters not in a sentimental way, with the result that mirrors the tension, colour and movement in nature.
Sandy is a long time painter specializing in colourful abstracted landscapes in acrylics.
